Carve Wood Wiki How to Hire Workers in Carve Wood
The worker roster, the order to unlock them, and the upgrade path.
Workers are the backbone of the Carve Wood economy on Roblox. Every worker you hire chops on its own while you upgrade your axe, bank logs, or push biomes. The right roster compounds your cash-per-hour faster than any axe upgrade. The wrong roster bottlenecks your lumber yard.
This guide walks through every worker in the game, the order to unlock them, and the placement rules that keep them chopping at peak efficiency.
Worker roster (in unlock order)
Carve Wood ships five worker tiers. Each tier is more expensive than the last, and each one earns its slot inside the first hour you use it.
- Apprentice Logger — the first hire. Cheap, slow, and reliable. Place it on the closest standard tree and let it chop while you handle the rest of the lumber yard. Unlocks inside the tutorial.
- Journeyman Logger — the first real upgrade. Twice the chop speed of the Apprentice for a modest price. Buy it the moment you can afford the upgrade without starving your axe budget.
- Master Logger — mid-game workhorse. Unlocks biome two trees and triples your passive income. Save for it, but do not delay once you have hit biome two.
- Foreman — the optimisation hire. The Foreman does not chop — it boosts the chop speed of every other worker by 20%. Slot it in once you have at least three other workers active.
- Master Woodcarver — the late-game hire. Unlocks the highest-yield tree in your current biome and automates the carving step, not just the chopping. Buy it last.
Cost/benefit per worker
| Worker | Approx cost (cash) | Chop speed vs Apprentice | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice Logger | 0 (tutorial) | 1.0x | Tutorial reward; first ten minutes |
| Journeyman Logger | 1,500 | 2.0x | Early game; first biome |
| Master Logger | 6,500 | 3.0x | Mid game; biome two push |
| Foreman | 12,000 | +20% boost to all workers | Optimisation; once you have three workers |
| Master Woodcarver | 28,000 | 4.5x + carves for you | Late game; before Legendary axe |
The numbers shift slightly with every patch — re-verify after each Roblox update on the Update log page.
Placement rules
- Place workers on the highest-yield tree they can reach. The Apprentice stays on standard trees; the Master Logger goes on biome two trees.
- Stack the Foreman next to the chopping workers, not at the stall. The Foreman’s aura covers choppers, not sellers.
- Move workers when you unlock a new biome. Leaving a Journeyman on a standard tree while biome two is unlocked wastes 30% of its chop speed.
When to hire vs when to upgrade your axe
The general rule is hire first, axe second. A worker earns passively while you play; an axe upgrade only earns while you chop. The exception: if the next-tier axe unlocks a new biome, buy the axe first — biome access is worth more than worker speed. See the Axe tier list for which axes unlock which biomes.
Worker upgrades
Each worker has an upgrade track similar to axes. The upgrade cap scales with rarity: Apprentice caps at level 3, Journeyman at level 6, Master at level 10, Foreman and Master Woodcarver at level 15. Spend the first upgrade token on your highest-tier worker — the marginal return is largest at the top.
Pair workers with the right build
The speed-run, idle, and whale builds in the Best player builds page each use a different worker roster. If you are unsure which build fits your play style, start with the speed-run roster (one of each worker, no upgrades) and migrate to idle once you start logging out for long sessions.
